The $500 Broker

Follow my progress as I start with the initial investment of $500 and two goals.

  1. Beat inflation (Expected rate of 2.54% in 2018)
  2. Break $1,000 portfolio value (100% Return)
According to the FDIC, the national average interest rate in savings accounts is 0.06%. That paired with the estimated 2.54% inflation rate in 2018 means you're losing money by leaving it in your savings!

The goal with this project is to show you how easy it is to make your savings work for you.

More info..

The main goal is to show how easy it is to make your savings work for you. Beat inflation and make a little extra on the side for the extra effort. The secondary goal is to eventually make a return of 100%, a portfolio value of $1,000 (from the initial investment of $500).

Along the way I will be documenting each step, keeping my followers updated weekly with the prior weeks market decisions, and potential plans for the following week. We will learn the basics of investing, including reporting tax (when that time of year roles around), and eventually break into more advanced topics as the portfolio and audience advances.

I will be using Robinhood, a platform to learn and trade within the stock market for free. By clicking my invitation link you will earn a free share in one of the predetermined companies Robinhood has listed (Possibilities include: Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, GE, Ford, and Snapchat for example)
